Much of life and adventure is dependent on the sweeping tide of the Orange River, a 2000km stretch of natural magnificence.
The arid territory feeds on the River and here you will find unique flora, endless horizons and teeming wildlife on the “islands of splendour” formed by the River as it cuts through the dry veld.
And the Kalahari Desert is like a colossal river of another kind. Its red shifting sands form part of the unspoilt Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Here you will feel the silence – an emotion that few have the privilege of experiencing. The Kgalagadi is home to the black-maned Kalahari lion. It’s roar, or the call of the fish eagle are haunting sounds that break the silence and solitude.
The silence is also reflected in the koppies and plains of the Karoo and Namakwa where hardy succulents bring gashes of colour to the browns and greens of the veld.
The Namakwa flowers from August through September are a tapestry of brilliant colours which entice butterflies, birds and long-tongued flies.
The shooting stars of the clear icy night skies silhouette the gigantic quiver trees and enormous granite outcrops.
The Northern Cape is a destination of real experiences and it waits for you to explore its wonder. This is The Creator’s playground!
The Northern Cape ... the land of really big, really blue skies.
When the first rains come to Namaqualand, the earth shakes off its dull clothes and explodes into a riot of colour. Your senses will be overloaded by the beauty of this extraordinary experience.
